Wednesday, former quarterback Joe Webb was working on returning punts with Minnesota Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer during OTA’s. This is part of an attempt to get the ultra-athletic Webb involved in making plays for the team outside of the quarterback position.
Via Pro Football Talk:
Webb’s a dynamic athlete, and coach Leslie Frazier has hailed his hands and his knowledge of the offense. That didn’t keep him from looking like a receiver pretending to be a quarterback in the playoffs, but their hope is that they can find a way to use someone they’ve invested three years into.
With the departure of their former return man Percy Harvin, it makes sense to try to find a way to work Webb into a different facet of the team. I could see the Vikings getting a few trick plays on the offense drawn up as well to take advantage of Webb’s athleticism. I am curious to see in what capacity Joe Webb makes the team roster, because he obviously is not going to be a quarterback.
